Taper Tip

« Back to Glossary Index

Taper tip (taper shaft):

Taper tip means that the diameter of the thinner end of the shaft gradually increases in diameter from the very tip up to a designed point on the shaft (usually 2 inches from the tip). Each shaft is dedicated for a specific club. The right shaft must be matched with the corresponding head to achieve the correct flex. Then the shaft is cut from the butt end to achieve the desired length.

The type (parallel tip or taper tip) and the tip diameter are always listed in the shaft specification.

The most common tip diameters for irons and wedges are .355 (expressed in inches).
