Embedded ball

Embedded ball:

Embedded ball is a lie in which the ball is partially buried. To be embedded, part of the ball must be clearly below the level of the ground in its own pitch mark. Under the Rules of Golf embedded ball in General Area may be lifted and cleaned before the next stroke.

Other informal names: buried lie, plugged ball, fried egg (in bunker)
