Second Ball:

Second Ball is a variation on a standard Four-Ball match. The idea behind introducing this format is to minimize the number of tied holes.

In the standard Four-Ball format, the lower score of each side is compared and this settles the hole. If the lower scores are equal the hole is halved.
In the Second Ball format, if the low balls result in a tie, the second balls are used to break that tie. The higher scores are compared and if they are also equal, the hole is halved. But if they differ, the higher score of each side settles the hole.

Other names: Next Ball, Second Best.
