Flop

« Back to Glossary Index

Flop:

Flop (flop shot) is a golf shot that travels high but not very far and lands softly with very little roll. The intention is to send the golf ball on a high-arcing trajectory, steeply up and steeply down, so that when the ball lands on the green it stops quickly. The flop shot is typically played with a high-lofted wedge (e.g. lob wedge) in order to get the ball over a obstacle (such as a bunker or rough) between the golfer and the flagstick. Other name: lob shot.
