Dimples

« Back to Glossary Index

Dimples:

Dimples are small indentations on the surface of the outer cover of the golf ball. Their function is to reduce the aerodynamic resistance (so called drag), increase the lift force and keep the ball in the air longer.

Most golf balls have between 300 and 500 dimples. They are arranged in various symmetrical patterns to meet the USGA requirements for golf ball. The patterns vary in size, shape and density.
