Cut

« Back to Glossary Index

Cut:

Cut is the procedure performed during a golf tournament when the field of players is reduced. The cutline (the score a golfer needs to be at or above to remain in the competition) is typically set at a score that is around the top 70 players (plus ties). Only the players who have a score equal to or better than the cutline are allowed to continue playing in the final round(s).

Other players are eliminated from the tournament. On the leaderboard, the players who missed the cut are marked with a status MS (missed cut) or CUT.
