Maximum Score

Maximum Score is a form of stroke play where the maximum number of strokes a player can score on each hole is limited. This limit must be clearly specified in the Terms of the Competition.

The maximum may be set as:

If players have real difficulty on the hole they are encouraged to pick up the ball without disqualification when the score is at or above the fixed maximum.

In general, but subject to the limitations of local Rules of Handicapping (authorized formats of play), the scores achieved in Maximum Score format can be accepted for handicapping purposes if the maximum hole score is not set lower than net double bogey.
